International Showcase at TRU

In conjunction of International Week at my university, Thompson Rivers University held an International Showcase on March 8th. The showcase began from 12 in the afternoon to 9:30 in the night. The purpose of this celebration is to appreciate the diversity and internationalization on the campus. Besides that, this celebration was established to provide students and faculty staff to share their culture, talents, awareness and involvement in global education and initiatives.

The showcase featured over 20 international display booths. This booths were set up to represent a country and they were decorated with their local ornaments that illustrate their cultural background. The representatives dressed in their traditional outfits at the booth who were actually students from that specific countries were there to provide informations to the visitors regarding their country through power point slide shows and verbal presentations.

Besides display booths, the showcase also offered its visitors with a variety of mouth watering international cuisine . From caviar, chow mien, pokumbab and sushi to western poultry that ignited the visitor's appetite, there was a long line up around the buffet line and dishes had to be replaced every 30 minutes.

The showcase also featured traditional performances which were simply amazing. Performances like traditional dancing, music performances and even martial arts kept the visitors wanting for more.

Overall, the showcase was magnificent and it really showed how colorful international diversity is. If only International Week was acknowledged by many country, cross cultural misunderstanding can be removed and the diversity of races and culture would be appreciated more.

Over 20 flags of the world.
